Thomas Stearns Eliot – Song

Thomas Stearns Eliot-Song

When we came home across the hill
    No leaves were fallen from the trees;
The gentle fingers of the breeze
Had torn no quivering cobweb down.

The hedgerow bloomed with flowers still,
    No withered petals lay beneath;
But the wild roses in your wreath
Were faded, and the leaves were brown.

William Butler Yeats – Aedh Tells of the Perfect Beauty

William-Butler-Yeats-Aedh-Tells-of-the-Perfect-Beauty

O cloud-pale eyelids, dream-dimmed eyes,
The poets labouring all their days
To build a perfect beauty in rhyme
Are overthrown by a woman’s gaze
And by the unlabouring brood of the skies:
And therefore my heart will bow, when dew
Is dropping sleep, until God burn time,
Before the unlabouring stars and you.

Emily Dickinson – I heard a Fly buzz – when I died - (Poem 591)

Emily-Dickinson- I heard a Fly buzz – when I died - (Poem 591)

I heard a Fly buzz - when I died -
The Stillness in the Room
Was like the Stillness in the Air -
Between the Heaves of Storm -

The Eyes around - had wrung them dry -
And Breaths were gathering firm
For that last Onset - when the King
Be witnessed - in the Room -

I willed my Keepsakes - Signed away
What portion of me be
Assignable - and then it was
There interposed a Fly -

With Blue - uncertain - stumbling Buzz -
Between the light - and me -
And then the Windows failed - and then
I could not see to see -

Emily Dickinson – Wild nights - Wild nights! (Poem 269)

Emily-Dickinson- Wild nights - Wild nights! (Poem 269)

Wild nights - Wild nights!

Were I with thee
Wild nights should be
Our luxury!

Futile - the winds -
To a Heart in port -
Done with the Compass -
Done with the Chart!

Rowing in Eden -
Ah - the Sea!
Might I but moor - tonight -
In thee!

Emily Dickinson – The Bustle in a House (Poem 1108)

Emily-Dickinson- The Bustle in a House (Poem 1108)

The Bustle in a House
The Morning after Death
Is solemnest of industries
Enacted opon Earth –

The Sweeping up the Heart
And putting Love away
We shall not want to use again
Until Eternity –
